FREE, Grades 5-8

Do you love comics? Do you have a standing appointment at Daydreams on Wednesdays? Want to know what it takes to make comics of your own? Now’s your chance to learn, in this hands-on workshop with local artist and cartoonist Violet Austerlitz! Share your ideas, get feedback, and learn the fascinating process of transforming your ideas into comics. This workshop is for kids in grades 5-8. Drawing materials will be provided. Free, but you must register below.

Violet Austerlitz is an Iowa City artist, printmaker, and cartoonist. She loves monsters and nature and technology, and the ways the three of them collide and shape each other. Currently, she is charting these collisions in a collection of comics called The Satanic Mechanic. She’s also a long-time member of the Iowa City Press Co-Op, and finds eternal delight in being part of a community of artists. She studied printmaking and theatre at Truman State University, but is mostly self-taught, and a firm believer in doing things you don’t yet know how to do.

Sorry, this workshop is full.
