Write Out Loud video to premiere Feb. 27

One major component of the One Book Two Book Children’s Literature Festival is the Write Out Loud! Writing competition. We traditionally recognize the winners at an event on the Sunday of the festival. Because of the ongoing pandemic, we will celebrate our student writers with a special video.

The video will premiere on the City of Literature’s YouTube channel at 1 p.m. CST on Sunday, Feb. 27. Tune in at https://youtu.be/YG9jBvHOze0. The video will be available for viewing at that link following the premiere.

For the writing portion of the festival, students in grades 1 through 8 in Corridor districts were encouraged to submit one page of original writing. These pieces can be stories, poems, song lyrics, graphic novel pages or anything else the students can envision. Those submissions were evaluated by a team at ACT in Iowa City. Grade-level winners were selected in two categories. They are:

  • The Write Stuff, which is judged based on language, clarity, structure, and emotional impact.
  • From the Heart, judged based on creativity, passion, and expressiveness.
